As indicated last month, Canada is ending their suspension of COVID-19 testing.

Starting July 19, all tourists and Canadian residents entering Canada will be subject to random COVID-19 testing at all major airports, regardless of vaccination status. The biggest change compared to previous testing requirements is that now, tests will be performed offsite.

Currently, all nonresidents are required to be fully vaccinated to enter Canada, but returning residents are allowed to be unvaccinated. If a vaccinated tourist is subject to a random COVID-19 test that comes back positive, they will be required by Canadian law to isolate for 10 days from the date of the test.

Current Canada Entry Requirements

As of July 19, 2022, tourists traveling to Canada must do the following to enter the country:

  1. Download the ArriveCAN app and enter all of your information.
  2. Be able to present a certificate that proves you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
  3. Ensure you do not have any symptoms of COVID-19.
  4. Be willing to submit to a random test on arrival if selected.
  5. Enter mandatory isolation for 10 days from the date of the test if it comes back positive.

The Importance of Travel Insurance

If you test positive for COVID-19 upon entering Canada and are required to isolate, you will undoubtedly incur additional trip expenses you were not planning for. To help protect you financially from the costs associated with unexpected trip delay and quarantine, it is strongly recommended that you purchase COVID-19 travel insurance with quarantine coverage

Canada is one of the most popular tourist destinations in North America. Though there may be more stringent entry requirements than some countries, the right international insurance will allow you to enjoy your Canadian vacation with confidence.
